Include diary with entries, 1848-1849, regarding student life at Columbian College, D.C., debates of the Enosinian Society of Columbia College, and social life in Washington, D.C.; and entries, 1852, regarding student life at the University of Virginia, including meetings of the Washington Society, "calathumping", and social life in Charlottesville, Va. Also include notebook, 1850-1861, with notes, 1850-1851, for chemistry lectures delivered by Robert E. Rogers at the University of Virginia, and journal entries, 1860-1861, regarding the management of his farm in Westmoreland County, Va., including weather, expenses, supplies, the hiring of slaves and free African-Americans, crop rotation, as well as Civil War news.
